Flexing the dating muscles
When most of the time that you’ve spent with another person has been while you’ve been busy being a parent, you can really get out of practice spending time together without children. And then what’s going to happen when the children have all left home, if you’re stuck with a stranger that you have nothing in common with? Getting time alone together is easier said than done, when all the children are small and babysitting is so expensive that there isn’t enough money left to actually go out after paying for the sitter. Luckily now we have older children that can babysit the youngest, Robin and I can go out together and remind ourselves of why we fell in love with each other. This was quick venture out to the Rose and Crown pub – not a hugely successful date, we’d forgotten that pubs still allow smoking and the clientele were mainly about Flo’s age so not much of an escape – but practice makes perfect.
Going on a dragon hunt
There were large numbers of Eastern dragons at the British Museum, so Tom and I focused on drawing Western dragons when we went on to the V&A afterwards yesterday. Funnily enough, unbeknownst to me, fellow blogger Katherine Tyrrell was drawing somewhere else in the building and it was her blog that had spurred me on to catch the Leonardo da Vinci drawings exhibition before it closed. This is the second near miss we’ve had!

’Nother Nativity
This time he was a shepherd, so next year if they make him an innkeeper and a king we’ll have the set.
Hottest year on record
The news today was that the UK has had record breakingly high temperatures this year – and we’ve been keeping records since the 17th century – so highly unlikely that we’ll have snow this year. However the leaves have at last fallen off the trees, so time for a bit of winter even if it’s only at the top of this blog.

Strange theology
I was explaining the Christmas story to Xavier. ‘It’s the birthday of Jesus and we all like to remember him because he grew up to become a very good, kind man’. To which Xavier replied ‘So did he become Father Christmas when he grew up?’
