You know, since curly quotes were built in as a default, I notice that people don't use inch marks! (Actually, in America they mostly write out 'in' or 'inch', perhaps because they can't find the key commands to make the inch mark!)

Exactly what I was going to say but was too exhausted to write about. I always turn off the preferences – type the feet or inches and then turn the preferences back on. Or copy and paste glyphs. I'm sure there's an easier way!

It’s a sort of stylistic thing. Well that’s my excuse anyway.

Julie, in InDesign there's a key command (control-shift-quote) but in Illustrator the key commands that used to work no longer do. The help file tells you to turn the preference off. I also do the glyph thing. Pretty annoying when you do packaging for housewares, as I did for years.
