I'm so interested to find your site. I grew up in St Albans and have just moved back with my one year old. I've dabbled in illustration and did a post grad cert at St Martins in my 20s but now I'm thinking of reviving my drawing to earn me some cash as a stay-at-home mum. I think your paintings & sketches are fantastic and wonder if there's a good time & place to meet you and other local artists and to see your work in exhib? I also love how enterprising your kids are! Hannah Padden.

Hannah thank you for being so kind about my work. Wise move coming back to St Albans to bring up your baby. Art and illustration seem to be a very solitary activity and I've found it difficult to have any contact with other local practitioners. Maybe we should start something up. I'm very busy over the summer with various things but maybe in the autumn, I'll think about it. In the meantime I found Illustration Friday and Every Day Matters on the internet were a way to be part of an online art community. (just google them) Also have a look at the the St Albans Art Society website (http://www.stalbans-artsociety.org.uk/) It gives the date of the annual summer exhibition - which I'd like to exhibit at (but can't because I'm away when you have to drop off paintings). Also if you join they have very reasonably priced life drawing sessions every wednesday evening over the winter. Most arts activities are dominated by the retired elderly who have the time, but they really like having new younger members. The kind of work that you can earn money from, often bears very little relationship to the kind of work that you would do for pleasure. Which is why I draw and illustrate for pleasure on my blogs. However if you keep drawing regularly for pleasure it does keep your skills honed.
