This is a place where I regularly post personal artwork, good, bad or indifferent.
The characters that crop up regularly in this blog are daughter – Flo, eldest son – Tom, second son – Hugo and third son – Xavier.
I'll try to reply wherever you comment but if I don't it's only because I'm overwhelmed with caring for my family and earning a living.
And talking about earning a living, if you need a good all round graphic designer please visit my business website to see if I can help you.
If you want to buy prints of anything you see here or have any requests please send an email to julie at julieoakleydesign dot com

Gosh, did they know you were drawing them? Lovely. Maybe when we go to the dentist, the doctor, for path tests, etc, we should take along a sketchbook. Do you use these sketches to make paintings later on?

PS.
How did you make the top heading of the autumn leaves - or is making a heading difficult? Peceli is sometimes asking me to make a heading more than the very ordinary blog title but I don't know how.

I rather look forward to things like this now because I know that armed with a sketchbook I won't get bored!
I LOVE your blog banner and want to know how to do one too!
Wendy and Katherine I did the personalised masthead ages ago and can't remember exactly what I did (once you've made all the html changes in the template replacing the masthead with another picture is easy). However I've copied and pasted the instructions from a similar question in my comments last year. Before you go through the laborious process you might want to consider whether you want to go to Beta Blogger first. One reason I haven't upgraded is that I'll lose all my personalisations. I'm no expert at HTML and I was very cautious. I copied and pasted the HTML into a word document at every stage before making any changes to the template so I could always revert back (by pasting the old html back into the template) if there were any disasters and I also previewed every time before saving changes and republishing. I'm afraid I can't remember all of the stages as there was a great deal of trial and error.
I followed somebody else's instructions for putting in the masthead (http://eyeswideapart.blogspot.com/2005_07_01_eyeswideapart_archive.html). There was one error in her text where she'd put a 'www' in a blogspot address and as you know there isn't a 'www' in the blogger addresses.
Also there were no instructions for getting rid of the border so that was my bit of trial and error which eventually worked - although there's still a stray bit of border below the masthead which at the moment I don't mind but I may want to get rid of that in the future.
My masthead was created at exactly the right size in pixels and then uploaded to some of my own space. If you don't have your own web space you could try using flickr. I would try creating a graphic at exactly the right size then upload to flickr. Provided that Flickr doesn't think its too big (and re-sizes it) the largest size picture will be the one that's the correct size.
This picture (because it's tonal ) was saved as a jpeg, but if I had a flatter, more graphic image it would probably look better saved as a gif.

Sorry I wasn't methodical enough to note exactly what I did.
Oh and regarding the drawings - Wendy if the sketchbook is small you can sometimes get away with it as people think you're taking notes, and yes Katherine isn't sketching great for passing the time at all of these tedious events. I'm sure that the practice will be helpful if I ever have the time to indulge myself in painting but I don't consciously do anything afterwards with all of these little sketches
