Man staring out of train window

capman
A delightful escape from my domestic prison today. Lunch and TOP SECRET presentation of the new corporate identity of one of my clients, in the City of London. And of course I sketched on the train – didn’t quite have the nerve to do it in the presentation.

He's my favorite of your train people, though they're all quite interesting. I like the details you've captured in his face and clothing. I hope your presentation went well and your client was happy with their new designs.

I had a bit more time with him - the others were on the underground train but this one was on the stretch from London to St Albans. I wasn't doing the corp id this time - far too big an organisation, I was being shown their new id, which I'll have to implement and incorporate into the work I do for them. The top secret bit is laughable - I can't imagine many people being in the slightest bit interested in this particular organisation's revamp but nevertheless I was sworn to secrecy.

My first visit to your blog, I learned of you in an online group. I love the train people. Do they see you drawing them? Do they ask to see? Does it ever make them uncomfortable? I would want to brush my hair and apply makeup(smile)

Welcome Cathy - most of the time I try to be very subtle and look as if I'm writing in a journal - so very few glances up. If they did realise and ask to see I would immediately apologise for their inaccuracies, because either they aren't accurate or if they are there's always the possibility that the subject finds the portrait unflattering *ouch*. Sometimes however, I can't be subtle (the media, the size of paper) so then I'll ask permission, but all the time apologising profusely and saying that unflattering portraits are the product of my lack of skill! Just out of interest can you remember which online group I was mentioned in?
