Flo after a shower
This is the third and least worst attempt to capture Flo this evening. All the drawings of her as a teenager have failed to capture the sweetness of her face. I have just over three years to get one right before she’s no longer a teenager.

WELL DONE! I too have such trouble with faces, especially the faces of those I love ... keep at it -- your faces are lovely!!
Thank you Lin. To be honest I don't think that faces are necessarily more difficult than anything else, it's just that all the inaccuracies are so much more obvious because you love and know the face so well.
I had in fact forgotten that I did one portrait of Flo and her best friend in July (http://julieoakley.blogspot.com/2005_07_01_julieoakley_archive.html)
which does show how sweet they both look.
This is pretty good, Julie. I'm sure you'll do (have done) her proud between now and then.
Julie,
Not knowing what Flo looks like leaves me nothing to compare however I think this is a lovely attempt. Your linework and shading is beautiful. I think drawing a profile is the toughest of them all and capturing the essence of someone with glasses is an even greater challenge. Please post your other attempts, I would love to see them all.
Detlef, thank you
Maggie,, just for you I've uploaded another one on flickr at http://www.flickr.com/photos/93036821@N00/105246089/. I think Flo would have fifty fits if I uploaded the worst one.
This is a great portrait! You really have such good strong, assertive lines -- wonderful!
Linda, I think using ink forces you to be less hesitant. Nancy that's just what I think about her younger years, but I'm lucky to be given a second chance with Xavier, my three year old. I now just have to persuade her to pose without watching TV (so I can draw her without the glasses!)
