This is a place where I regularly post personal artwork, good, bad or indifferent.
The characters that crop up regularly in this blog are husband – Robin, eldest teenager and only daughter – Flo, next teenager and eldest son – Tom, teenager second son – Hugo, five year old third son – Xavier, and red Staffordshire Bull Terrier – Rufus.
I'll try to reply wherever you comment but if I don't it's only because I'm overwhelmed with running a family and earning a living.
My two eldest have started a business venture selling artwork (mainly my paintings) to raise money for university. Please visit their site, Oakley Gallery to see what they are selling now.
If you want to buy prints of anything you see here or have any requests please send an email to flo at oakleygallery dot com

Julie,
Have you given some thought to
illustrating children's books ?

I agree with Susan. Your illustrations are lovely. But don't let the author get all the royalties.
oooh very beautiful, and the soft colors just add to the effect!
What gorgous lilies! Your blind contouring doesn't seem particularly blind - though it still has that wonderful lively quality!
Susan, as someone who earns my living from design plus a bit of illustration, of course I've considered children's book illustration. But it seems to me that to pursue that ambition I would have to develop one style and slavishly stick to it. I would also have to put a huge amount of effort into promoting that one style. Without doing that how would book publishers notice me when there are so many very talented people doing just that and chasing a a much smaller number of projects.
However if there are any publishers out there who've spotted something they like in my blog do feel free to contact me at (myfirstname)(at)(myfirstname)(mysecondname)(design)(dot)(com)
Yes Rachel if publishers want me to write the text, I'd have a go at that as well!
Thank you Karen
Caroline, I promise on this occasion the black lines were not a cheat. The colour was however added afterwards from memory with a Wacom pad.
