Illustration Friday - DEPTH

Okay the link with 'depth' is very tenuous, but the pressure of being the last person to upload on Illustration Friday is getting to me! Most mornings Robin shares his DEEP bath and his breakfast cereal with Xavier. And every time he plays the same joke, the little orange fish appears on the cereal spoon from the DEPTHS of the bath water, and every time, Xavier cracks up laughing.

Hello both of you. Vfm The last 2 times I posted it was about midday on Friday and somehow I think its cheating to post to the previous week's topic so, I only just made it. Yes Jaime, Xavier is our 4th delightful surprise eXtra child.

I love most how this image is personal, the spot of colour and Robin's open mouth :)

I love the intimacy of this drawing; it truly captures a special family moment! You did such a good job creating the bubbles around the bodies, and each little thing around the bathtub is in perfect perspective! I love Robin's open mouth - raised eyebrows expression...that thing parents do when feeding a small child...and the little orange fish! Xavier will always remember that...probably even do it with his children! Lovely :>

I'm so pleased that so many of you spotted the orange on the fish. The original was A4 and it was difficult for me to adjust the reduced size version so that it retained the feel of the original.

Carla - not only is it an intimate family moment, but it allows the world to be intimately acquainted with my shambles of a bathroom!

This "event" could make a whole picture book, I think. Lovely for Fathers and Father's Day.

I thought you weren't supposed to eat before you went swimming? :)

This is a terrific sketch and conveys a lot of depth in every sense - your sense of perspective is excelletn and the linework (balance of dark against light, altenating line angles) is spot on!

The IF deadline pressure - I know what you mean!

This is precious...really wonderful detail...and the expression on Dad's face is priceless.

Feeding the kid in the bathtub seems like a very efficient idea!

Thank you all for your kind comments. It's really good to know when an illustration has worked for other people. It encourages me to use some more moments like this in the future

Love the drawing - if this is what you can do with a photo, then you should maybe do some more! ;)
