This is a place where I regularly post personal artwork, good, bad or indifferent.
The characters that crop up regularly in this blog are daughter – Flo, eldest son – Tom, second son – Hugo and third son – Xavier.
I'll try to reply wherever you comment but if I don't it's only because I'm overwhelmed with caring for my family and earning a living.
And talking about earning a living, if you need a good all round graphic designer please visit my business website to see if I can help you.
If you want to buy prints of anything you see here or have any requests please send an email to julie at julieoakleydesign dot com

Hi, Julie. I will probably always be on and off because of our small, overloaded server, so like Penny, in a few posts, earlier, I am catching up. I love your sketches and washes--they have such a spontaneous feel to them that they capture the moment so well.
Now I need to catch up on Penny's blog.

Julie,
Your drawings have a flow to them, look unfettered. Yet, there's a relaxed tautness and focus in your studies of line and light. I'm a painter and draftsman gearing up for a cruise and taking a sketchbook along. The journal aspect of a sketchbook is very appealing, the recording of small moments in time. Your work reflects the sheer enjoyment of looking and notating.
Very refreshing work.
Sincerely,

Clyde, thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I'd love to find the time to create bigger pieces of work - such as your very impressive paintings, but with a job and four children the snatched moment work of art will have to be my metier.
Julie,
Yours is an enviable gift, cherish it. Your work reflects an artist cherishing the moment, a rare preoccupation nowadays in the onward thrusting pace of our crazy world. One can fuss and fidget for long days and months over more sustained works and often lose the spark of initial ignition/inspiration. That's the lazy artist's approach, perhaps often mine. But, to capture a piece of life on the fly and then let it go......you've got that. It's amazing to see you fit in such quality time for your art with a very busy work/family schedule.
I look forward to seeing more of your drawings.
Best wishes,
Clyde Semler
Many thanks Clyde – I really appreciate your encouragement.
